El Salvador's National Park!

El Salvador National Park!

There's a great park in El Salvador, call "El Cerro Verde". This is a majestic park, you will see many species of birds, butterflies and wild flowers in its surroundings. I was amazed to see so much beauty surrounding the tall and shaded trees throughout the park. At the top of the park, you can rest and have lunch, where you will also see a gorgeous view overlooking the "Coatepeque Lake" and the Santa Ana Volcano shown above.

El Salvador's Mountains!

El Salvador Mountains!
The Picture on the side was taken in Monte Cristo's park, is called the Tree of Love, you will know why?

One of the most amazing mountains and highest peak of El Salvador I have visited, was the mountain of Monte Cristo. This mountain is called the "Christ's Bush", located in Metapan, Santa Ana in El Salvador. The highest peak of Monte Cristo is called the " El Trifinio" in English, "three ends", was named after knowing that three different countries borders lay on this highest peak which are El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. We made it to the top a little before 3pm. I was one of the first one from the pack to arrive to the destination of "El Trifinio", it was beautiful. The overlook of the mountains, mist and fog was amazing!
The Mountain of Monte Cristo has also a wonderful garden of various wild plants and flowers. This place is much like a paradise, very intriguing and unforgettable. There's a camping site halfway at the mountain, were cars and trucks can drive up to. We camp for a night, but if you do ever camp at the mountain of Monte Cristo, make sure you bring lots of blankets and tent for a very cold night.
It was amazing, this is a must when visiting El Salvador!

El Salvador is no longer at War!

El Salvador is no longer at War!

I wanted to take some time and write a little about the history of El Salvador. Many people around the world believe and remember the civil war in El Salvador, with guerrillas fighting the Salvadoran military Army and vice-versa. That was almost 18 years ago, a new generation has been born and many of those people around the world are stuck with the CNN news of the 1980's and early !990's, were we use to see the cruelty and casualties of every war scenes.
I'm determined to let you all know that the War is over, it has been over many years ago, Peace treaties have been signed and the Salvadoran people have been enjoying in PEACE for many years now. You may ask, why is it, that I'm writing about this and trying to justify a country like El Salvador? Well, very simple, the news hardly mentioned the great things of a country unless is in the Travel Channel, but in reality the only news of a country is when something bad has happened.
I lived in El Salvador in the years between 1993-1996 were things were just transitioning from the 12 year war. I experienced a country with will to succeed and prosper. We have seen it over and over, when El Salvador has had an Earthquake and the quickness of its recovery as a country has been amazing.
I, invite you to learn more of El Salvador's culture and places to visit. You can have a vacation to the fullest, visit the entire 14 states of El Salvador. El Salvador retain its Independence from Spain in 1821 and ever since has been an allied to the United States of America. I hope this brief summary has given you all a feel of what El Salvador is all about and give it a tried next time you are looking for a sunny, beaches, surfing, hiking, water rafting, volcano sightseeing and city night life vacation, think of El Salvador as your next choice, you won't regret it!

El Salvador History!

El Salvador History!

We have written this blog for everyone interested in learning more about El Salvador's lovely places. The country of El Salvador has unbelievable scenery's that make anyone fall in love with it. I'm amazed every time I have the opportunity to visit this beautiful country and its habitats. Here's a little bit of history, culture, attractions, and many more attributes of this gorgeous country of El Salvador;

Most of El Salvador (’the savior’ in Spanish) is volcanic. The country has been racked by civil war and a succession of natural disasters which have left it physically devastated and psychologically traumatized.

In the 1920s, the military entered the political arena (by virtue of successfully putting down a farm workers’ revolt led by Augustin Farabundo Marti) and has retained a central role ever since. The economic problems grew throughout the 1950s, 60s and 70s. The 1980 assassination of Archbishop Romero (a leading critic of civil rights abuses) by right-wing elements, accelerated the country’s plunge into civil war.

As the war spread throughout the country during the 1980s, the government received huge amounts of US military and civil aid. A formal ceasefire, under UN auspices and supervised by a joint forum of the two sides, entitled the National Commission for the Consolidation of Peace (COPAZ), came into force at the beginning of 1992.

Political differences were temporarily set aside in January 2001, when the country was struck by a massive earthquake, which killed several thousand and left tens of thousands homeless. The reconstruction period was overshadowed once again by the legacy of the civil war. There were repeated clashes over compensation, between ex-fighters and security forces, while in 2002, several former generals in exile in the USA were convicted in US courts of human rights abuses.

Despite the scars left by civil war, poverty and natural disasters, visitors will appreciate the resilience and optimism such tragedy seems to have inspired in El Salvador. Poor communities such as Ilobasco and La Palma have become renowned for their handicrafts and folk art. Even though crime is still a problem for those visiting the country, the National Civilian Police (PNC), created in the wake of war, is working on improving safety.

The country’s major attractions include volcanoes, mountains (especially those in Cerro Verde National Park), beaches, tropical nature preserves and archaeological sites from the Maya civilization.

Geography

El Salvador is located in Central America and is bordered north and west by Guatemala, north and east by Honduras and south and west by the Pacific Ocean. Most of the country is volcanic uplands, along which run two almost parallel rows of volcanoes. The highest are Santa Ana at 2,365m (7,759ft), San Vicente at 2,182m (7,159ft) and San Salvador at 1,943m (6,375ft). Volcanic activity has resulted in a thick layer of ash and lava on the highlands, ideal for coffee planting. Lowlands lie to the north and south of the high backbone.

l Salvador’s infrastructure was badly affected by the earthquake in Jan 2001. This has resulted in years of ongoing work and you should consult Government travel warnings for up-to-date information on specific conditions in the country.

San Salvador
Situated 680m (2240ft) above sea level, the capital, San Salvador, is the second-largest city in Central America, with a population of over 600,000. Founded by the Spaniard Pedro De Alvarado in 1525, the city is a blend of modern buildings and colonial architecture, broad plazas and monuments, amusement parks and shopping centers. The most important public buildings are downtown. Standing within a short distance of each other are the Catedral Metropolitana (metropolitan cathedral), the Palacio Nacional (national palace), the National Treasury and the Teatro Nacional (national theater). Among the many beautiful colonial churches to be seen are St Ignatius Loyola (once the shrine of the ‘Virgin of Guadalupe’) with a traditional Spanish colonial facade, the Juayua and the Suchitoto. The amusement park on San Jacinto Mountain can be reached by cable car and gives a panoramic view of the city.
Balboa Park, 11km (7 miles) from the capital, and the 1200m (3900ft) rock formation, the Puerta del Diablo (devil’s doorway), just south of Balboa Park, also give a bird’s-eye view of San Salvador.

Excursions

From San Salvador, excursions can be made by road to Panchimalco, 15km (9 miles) south of the capital, around which live the Pancho Indians (pure-blooded descendants of the original Pipil tribes), who retain many of their old traditions and dress. The village of San Sebastián, approximately one hour by car from San Salvador, is known for its beautiful woven materials. The village is situated near Lake Ilopango, the largest of El Salvador’s lakes, surrounded by volcanoes and mountains, and is a popular destination for outdoor and watersports’ enthusiasts.

La Costa del Sol, excursions out of San Salvador is approximately a 55 minutes drive to the coast. There's the famous "puntilla" (tip in spanish) costa del sol, which is the tip of the coast, approximately 1 hour and thirty minute drive, here's where the lake meets the ocean's point break! A gorgeous and unbelievable sight at dawn time.

White Water Rafting in El Salvador!

White Water Rafting in El Salvador!

The best rapids Levels two to three are in the Paz River in El Salvador.

Departure from San Salvador to Rio Paz (Paz river) at 6:30 AM. This trip will pass through a section of the river called Las Urracas (Blue jays), for the large population of these birds in this place. This is a virgin area, of great beauty and crystalline waters. This section's rapids are intense and with much adrenaline, but of low risk (level 2-3). During the trip we will hike through waterfalls, water jumps and river ponds. Return to San Salvador will be in late afternoon.

One of the greatest wonders of Nature's are the volcanoes. I remember the first time I set foot to my first volcano experience. It was a long and steep walk, but the greatest part of it all, was when I reached the top. Those long 3 hours of walking up, was all worth it at the end. My eyes were startled and glowing as they were seeing something new and beautiful. It was the San Salvador volcano, that I first set my eyes into the crater and realize how great nature was.
In El Salvador, there's many places to visit, but one experience you shouldn't leave without visiting should be a visit to one of the 5 volcanoes in El Salvador!
